Rewiring

House rewiring in Andover and the surrounding villages.

What’s involved

Wiring doesn’t last forever. Rubber and early PVC cables perish, old sockets and switches wear, and a house extended over decades can end up with several generations of wiring behind the plaster. A rewire replaces all of it with new cable, accessories and a modern consumer unit, and it’s the right time to add the sockets, lighting and circuits a modern household actually needs.

T2 Electrics & Plumbing carry out full and partial rewires across Andover and the Test Valley villages, including a lot of 1960s and 70s houses on the town’s estates and older cottages in Wherwell, Stockbridge and the Bourne valley. We plan the cable routes with you to keep disruption to a minimum, and in listed or period homes we route sympathetically so original features are untouched.

A rewire is usually done in two stages: first fix while the house is being renovated, with cables run and back boxes fitted, then second fix once plastering is done. We coordinate with your builder, plasterer and decorator, and since we also handle plumbing, a renovation that needs both trades is one job rather than two.

Common questions

What people ask before booking rewiring.

How long does a full rewire take?

A three-bedroom house is typically five to eight working days, in two stages around plastering. Partial rewires are quicker. We’ll give you a day-by-day plan with the quote.

Do I need to move out for a rewire?

Not necessarily. It’s dusty and disruptive, and the power is off for parts of each day, but many customers stay, especially for partial rewires. If the house is being renovated anyway, that’s the easiest time to do it.

Which areas do you cover for rewiring?

Everywhere within roughly 20 miles of Andover: Test Valley and north Hampshire, east Wiltshire including Tidworth, Amesbury and Salisbury, and west Berkshire including Newbury and Hungerford. If you’re just outside that, ask.
